Ken Melamed - Whistler Mayor
Ken Melamed, Mayor of Whistler, is an experienced environmental champion with an impressive track record of how to govern effectively while ensuring that ecological principles and economic choices benefit people and the planet. Ken believes in Whistler, and understands that this community's success is ultimately dependent on nature, people and place.
A long-term resident of Whistler, Ken helped initiate Whistler’s grassroots, citizen environmental organization, AWARE, and served as president for six years.
He was a founding director of Smart Growth BC in 1999 and has served on the Fraser Basin Council for the past 6 years. He served on the premier's Citizen's Conservation Council for Climate Action, and was invited to a coalition for a BC Endangered Species Act.
As mayor, Ken continues to apply the community-developed Whistler2020 vision, which he helped develop, to achieve results. The resort is an economic engine for the province, a leader in environmental stewardship and has an innovative attainable housing program.
