Nils Jensen - Mayor, Oak Bay
In Oak Bay Nils initiated the Climate Change Task Force that recommended a series of ground-breaking initiatives to reduce green house gases. He also chaired a committee that led to modern flexible rules that encourage home renovation not demolition.
While Chair of the Water Commission he led many sustainable and green initiatives that include: developing school curriculum on water conservation, a water-sharing agreement with First Nations and federal government to sustain salmon bearing streams, and acquiring and reforesting the 10,000 ha. Leech River watershed.
In addition to achieving the main objective of providing high quality water to the region, the Commission under his leadership also aimed to uphold ecological values by conserving biodiversity, forest cover and wildlife such as deer, black bears, cougar and wolves, etc.
