Gary Holman
NDP, Saanich North and the Islands
Gary is an economist by
profession, with a Masters Degree in economics from Simon Fraser
University. He was a consulting economist for over 25
years, specializing in resource and land use issues. He worked with the Nisga’a Tribal Council on
the fisheries component of its land claim, and on a number of regional land use
planning processes for the Province
Gary has always been actively
involved in community affairs on Salt Spring and a strong supporter of the
Islands Trust.
Gary has been active in the
conservation movement in the Capital region, serving on the Boards of the Salt
Spring Island Conservancy and The Land Conservancy of BC. He was a co-founder and Chair of the South
and West Salt Spring Conservation Partnership, a coalition of local, regional
and provincial conservation agencies that was instrumental in the protection of
2500 acres of the Texada lands in 2001.
