ANTI-HARPER AD RUNS ON THE ISLAND
“ Dinosaur” Stance On Kyoto Challenged

(Victoria, BC) The Conservation Voters of BC ran its first ever third party political ad Sunday in the Victoria Times Colonist. The group first posted the ad on its website for a week to raise money to run the ad.

“The response has been tremendous,” said Matt Price, Coordinator of Conservation Voters of BC. “We not only raised enough money to run the ad, but it went very ‘viral’ on the Internet, reaching people all across the country.” The ad has been downloaded hundreds of times over several days, and one person in Barrie, Ontario is even using the ad as a poster in his community.

The ad plays humorously on Stockwell Day’s assertion that dinosaurs and humans roamed the earth at the same time, suggesting that due to Stephen Harper’s backwards views on Kyoto, that this may be true. The ad merited a mention in both the Globe and Mail and the Vancouver Sun.

The Times Colonist is read by voters in ridings around Southern Vancouver Island where all of the races are close, including Victoria, Saanich-Gulf Islands, Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca, and Nanaimo-Cowichan.

“We’re asking voters to think twice before supporting candidates who would wilfully ignore the most serious environmental issue facing Canada, and indeed the world,” said Price. “I want a Prime Minister who makes me proud to wear a maple leaf when I travel because Canada takes its environmental responsibilities seriously.”
