ENDORSEMENTS ANNOUNCED FOR VICTORIA, SAANICH

(Victoria, BC) Today the Conservation Voters of BC (CVBC) announced its endorsements for the municipal election races in Victoria and Saanich.

“We decided to focus our efforts on Victoria and Saanich since they are the biggest players on the CRD,” said Matt Price, Coordinator of CVBC. “To get the sewage problem fixed, these two places must be onside politically.”

The endorsements were based heavily on candidate answers to a question put to them by the Victoria Sewage Alliance. The answers for all candidates can be found at www.victoriasewagealliance.org. The other major factor in the endorsements was viability of the candidate’s campaign. These are the endorsements:

Victoria

For Mayor         Alan Lowe
For Council       Marianne Alto
                        Sonya Chandler
                        Dean Fortin
                        Pam Madoff
                        Bryan Skinner
                        Geoff Young

Saanich

For Council       Judy Brownoff
                        Vic Derman
                        Paul Gerrard
                        Ian Graeme
                        Wayne Hunter
                        Vicki Sanders

“We are pleased that Mayor Lowe has committed to show leadership on the sewage issue,” said Price. “We believe that he has the experience to make treatment a reality.”

“But, we were disappointed that there is not a race for Mayor of Saanich,” continued Price. “Without competition, politicians can fall behind the times.”

Over the coming three weeks, CVBC volunteers will door-knock around Victoria and Saanich to inform voters about the endorsements and to encourage people to vote. In the May provincial election, four of five CVBC endorsees won, two by close margins aided by CVBC efforts.
